Summer decided to show itself once again on a beautiful but hot Thursday afternoon. The Stanton Wildcats traveled over to Chassell to race down the windy and hilly terrain of the Chassell Ski Trails. Our team made a strong showing once again with Bentley and Liam Kinnunen taking 4th and 5th place. Henry Johnson came in a short time later in 25th place. The Niska sisters took on a crowded field as well with Sela taking 1st place and Meren 9th. Way to push through the hot conditions and hilly terrain, Wildcats!
Go WildCats! Stanton Cross Country runners will be running at the Dollar Bay/Chassell Invite this afternoon at 4pm.

The Stanton Wildcats traveled to Ontonagon Monday evening to take on the Gladiators. The team played well and won big against their opponents. The Wildcats will be traveling up to Calumet Thursday for a 4:00 game. Thank you to Jennie Asiala for providing the photographs of Monday's game.

The third grade introduced their weekly STEM projects on Friday, focusing on learning to work together and persevere in solving problems. Their Language Arts story for the week talked about a younger brother who wanted to learn how to swing; their STEM project was to design a swing for the little brother. Students worked with partners to build a swingset using various materials. They then presented their swingsets to the class and answered the following questions: What materials did you use, and what problem did you have to solve as you built? They did a wonderful job!
Our 8th grade students have been learning about waves in Mrs. Haworth's class. In this picture, students are bouncing light beams through mazes using low intensity lasers and mirrors.
The second graders have been learning about seed dispersal this past week. One of the lessons included a fun activity where Mrs. D. popped balloons with seeds inside. Students made predictions and then measured the distance seeds traveled. In nature, some plants are stimulated to release seeds in explosive ways. One local example is the jewelweed.

The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes visited E.B. Holman this afternoon and challenged our Stanton Wildcats to a game of basketball. Our girls came out strong leading by close to 10 points for much of the game. When the buzzer closed out play, the score was 37 for the Wildcats and 25 for the Lakes! Way to go team!
The Wildcats traveled across the canal and took on the challenging terrain of Maasto Hiihto in the Hancock Invite. The beautiful weather provided nearly perfect running conditions as Sela Niska crossed the finish line and took first place out of a crowd of 65 runners. Maren Niska finished 5th place in that very same race. The boys also had a strong showing, with Liam Kinnunen crossing the finish line in 4th place. A short time later, Bentley Kinnunen finished in 5th. Trevin’s Kangas and Henry Johnson also ran great races with Trevin crossing in 13th and Henry in 22nd place out of the crowd of 77 runners! Way to go Wildcats!

Sixth grade students in Mrs. Haworth's science class design and test balloon vehicles as they begin their exploration of forces and motion.
Our Wildcats took on the Baraga Vikings today. It was a challenging game, but our Wildcats played hard all the way. We are proud of your effort girls!
It's harvest time in gardens all over the Copper Country and the same is true right here at the school/community garden. If you would like some fresh tomato, basil, beans, broccoli, or peppers, please stop by and help yourself. If you harvest basil, just clip off portions of each plant so that they will continue growing. Broccoli can also be clipped off and the plant will continue to produce small buds. The beans are nearing their end. Some of the beans may be getting woody. We plan to let the pumpkins, Brussel sprouts, onions, sweet corn, and potatoes keep growing. Thank you to everyone who has pitched in at some time this growing season!
