The Wildcats wrapped up the season tonight as they battled the Jeffers Jets in the Dennis Massoglia Memorial 8th Grade Tournament. Although the team finished with a loss, the team had a successful season with wins against Dollar Bay, Ontonagon, Lake Linden, and the CIA. We are proud of our team and the SISU they exhibited throughout the season. Thanks goes out to coach Shannon Loukus and her assistant Jacqueline Loukus! The boys' season starts tomorrow. Go Wildcats!

Students in Mrs. Marcotte's kindergarten class went on a fun fall field trip to a local farm. They got to feed farm animals, launch apples with a giant sling shot, check out an old tractor and pose for pictures. Mrs. Marcotte also had fall snacks (apple cider, popcorn, and apple donuts) to share with the class.

The 4th graders took a field trip to the Keweenaw National Historical Park today. They did a walking tour around Calumet to see the places described in the book Living on Sisu. Some of the places included the Italian Hall site, Agassiz Park, several churches, Big Annie's house, and the Miscowau Club. They also visited the National Park's visitor center. In case you want an interesting place to tour, it's open to the public every Saturday from 10AM-2PM. Admission is free.

It has been an exciting season for the team as they've shown tremendous growth in their defensive play and movement of the ball. The team will be battling it out on the court next Tuesday as they take on the Dollar Bay Blue Bolts in the Dennis Massoglia 8th Grade Tournament in Calumet. Go Wildcats!

While on the Hanka Homestead field trip, 4th graders got apples from the orchard. The Hanka family was known for their good apples, which was one source of income for them. The 4th graders made applesauce with some of the apples and peeled & cut up the rest to make apple crisp.

The Wildcats had a great afternoon on the court and out on the trail. The girls' basketball team took on the Copper Island Academy at home. The girls had their best game of the season with multiple players scoring big. In addition, everyone played incredible defense with numerous takeaways and rebounds. In the end, the Wildcats scored 45 points and their opponents scored 17.
Out on the trail, the boys' cross country team competed at the Houghton Invite. Liam and Bentley Kinnunen finished the race in 2nd and 3rd place!
Great job Wildcats!

Good luck to our cross country runners today @ the Houghton Invite!

The fourth graders are reading the book Living on Sisu, a fictional story set in the Copper Country during the time of the copper mining strike in the early 1900’s.
They visited the Hanka Homestead, which was the residence of Herman & Miina Hanka after Herman had gotten hurt in a mining accident. The Homestead tour gave the 4th graders a picture of what life was like in the Keweenaw 100 years ago.

Friday is Plaidurday! Celebrate with us by wearing your favorite plaid tomorrow!

The Wildcat cross country team competed in the Regional Finals this afternoon at the MTU Trails. Schools participating in the meet included Houghton, Calumet, Chassell, Baraga, Copper Island Academy, Dollar Bay, Hancock, Jeffers, LL Wright, Wakefield, and West Iron County.
With a clap of thunder and the starter's gun, our runners were off battling their way through the crowded trails. What began as a run through beautiful fall weather, turned out to be a race through torrential rain, hail, and wind.
The Wildcats represented our school well, with each one of them pushing beyond what is comfortable and exhibiting the SISU spirit.
Sela Niska took first place in the girls' race. Finishing top ten in the two races were Meren Niska (7th), Liam Kinnunen (4th), and Bentley Kinnunen (5th).
Way to go athletes and coaches! GO WILDCATS!!!
